Khaleda Zia shown arrest in sabotage case

The five years jail sentence awarded Begum Khaleda Zia is now shown arrest in sabotage case.

A sabotage case was filed in 2015 against Khaleda Zia over the incident of hurling petrol bomb in a bus in Comilla. Six top leaders of BNP including Khaleda Zia were made accused for ordering the incident. She is shown arrest in this case.

Former Member of Parliament from Comilla’s Chouddagram constituency and Jamaat leader Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher was made prime accused in the incident. Besides, 20 unnamed and 56 named persons were made accused in the case.

8 people were killed when petrol bomb was hurled in a bus on February 3, 2015. Police filed two more cases under explosives substances act and special powers act over Chouddagram police station in this connection.

Later the court issued arrest warrant against Khaleda Zia and the others in the three cases. In last November Comilla Court Police Inspector Subrata Benarjee sent the arrest warrant to Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

There are 34 cases against Khaleda Zia. Of these there are arrest warrants against her in the case of controversial comment regarding the number of freedom fighters and liberation war and observing fake birth day on August 15.

In the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case Khaleda Zia was Awarded five years imprisonment. She is now in the old central jail at Najimuddin road in the capital.

For the first time in the history of Bangladesh a former Prime Minister had to go to jail over corruption charge.

In the graft case other five persons including BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman were awarded 10 years imprisonment each. Moreover they were fined 2 crore 10 lakh 71 thousand 671 taka each.
