Khaleda Zia to wait more for getting bail
The High Court Today concluded the hearing on the bail petition filed by BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. The court will deliver order on the petition after it receives the case records from the lower court.
The High Court bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim delivered the order on Sunday.
High Court accepted the appeal of Khaleda Zia against the lower court verdict for hearing on February 22. It fixed the date February 25 for hearing on the bail petition and halted the fines against Khaleda Zia. On Thursday a bench of Justice Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim delivered the order.
Moreover, High Court ordered the lower court to send all the case records within 15 days.
The 1223 pages appeal including the original verdict sought acquittal of Khaleda Zia showing 44 grounds. And in the 880 pages bail petition it sought bail of Khaleda Zia showing 31 grounds over 48 pages.
On February 8, Judge of Dhaka-5 special court Akhtaruzzaman awarded five years imprisonment to Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. In the verdict the court also sentenced Khaleda’s son Tarique Rahman and other accused 10 years imprisonment and fines.
