BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the party has decided to join the parliament.

He said this at a press conference organized at BNP Chairperson’s political office at Gulshan in the capital on Monday.

Mirza Fakhrul said, we have taken decision to join the parliament to press home our demands of BNP Chairperson’s better treatment, her release and for a free and fair election.

Earlier another four elected lawmakers from BNP took oath on Monday. Now only party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is left alone.

The four MPs who were sworn in are- Md. Aminul Islam from Chapainawabganj-2 constituency, Harunur Rashid from Chapainawabganj-3, Ukil Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan from Brahmanbaria-2 and Mosharraf Hossain from Bogura-4 constituency.

Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury administered the oath taking.

In the eleventh national parliament election BNP and Jatiya Oikyafront secured only eight seats. Of them six were elected from BNP and two were elected from Oikyafront. But Jatiya Oikyafront boycotted the results on the night of election alleging huge fraudulence. Later unilateral decision was taken that nobody from Jatiya Oikyafront will take oath as lawmaker.

Disobeying the decision Gono Forum elected MP from Moulvibazar-2 constituency Sultan Mohammad Mansur took oath on March 7 and on April 2 another Gono Forum elected MP from Sylhet-2 constituency Mokabbir Khan took oath. On April 25 after disobeying the party decision BNP elected MP from Thakurgaon-3 Jahidur Rahman took oath.

There is obligation to take oath as Member of Parliament within 90 days from the day of first session of parliament. According to that April 30 (Tuesday) is the last day of taking oath.
