In the election of December 30 last year Awami League left the seat to Jatiya Party but in the by-election they decided to contest. Awami League joint general secretary T Zaman Niketa has become the candidate of symbol boat. On the other hand Nurul Islam Omor is the candidate for Jatiya Party. As BNP boycotted the election in 2014 he was elected from there but in the election of December 30 he was defeated by Mirza Fakhrul.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was elected from this constituency in the eleventh national parliament election as BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia could not contest as she is convicted by the court.
